In 2004 the Forum Park was built on the occasion of the Universal Forum of Cultures in Barcelona. This is situated between the city of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, although the city council of Barcelona has the authorization for the celebration of events.
The Forum of Cultures was founded on three pillars that promoted a sustainable development, conditions for peace and cultural diversity. These three areas were the subject of numerous exhibitions, shows and conferences for a total of 141 days in 2004.
Forum area highlights for its impressive architecture and the “future look” of all the zone which, together with the Agbar Tower and the Plaça de les Glòries, is becoming another centre of Barcelona.
Forum Park covers an area of 16 hectares and has two major buildings. The first is the Forum building which has an underground auditorium with capacity for 3,200 attendees and an exhibition hall. The building is since 2011 the National Museum of Natural Sciences of Catalonia, known as Museu Blau. The second building was the International Convention Center of Barcelona in which took place exhibitions and conferences. Currently, it still holds exhibitions, business meetings, acts of solidarity, environmental acts and others.
An important emblem of the Forum is the giant solar panel with an area of 112 meters for 50 meters. This is a structure with 3,780 m2 of solar panels with a capacity of 1,300 KW.
Forum park is suitable for all types of mass celebrations. It's a big enough space that was capable of hosting the visit of more than 3 million people during the celebration of the Universal Forum of Cultures in 2004. After the conclusion of the event, the enclosure surface of the forum has continued holding mass events such as musical acts during La Mercè (local festivity of Barcelona).
To reach the Forum zone it is best to use public transportation. We can get there by bus (7, 36, 41, 43, 141 and N6), by metro (line 4 - Forum) or by tramway.
